Membership Votes Empty Membership Votes

Post by DrManette 1/3/2010, 22:02

Me and a few other members have noticed how fast people have been voted in the last few weeks. Now I don't find any of the new members to be a problem, I just think the voting needs to be a little less free-for-all. Maybe we should increase the number of votes needed or something... any ideas? I know I'm fairly new, and I got in pulp in about three weeks (one was the wait period). But at this rate we'll have a lot of new members very quickly.

Thnx Dr. Manette. We appreciate your concern. Please everyone read these two threads and tell us your opinions.

http://forum.pulpfortress.com/suggestions-f17/becoming-a-member-t297.htm?highlight=bcoming+a+member

What i would like to add is that i've also seen very little activity in the forum from some of the new members. Maybe we should set this as a requirement. This was discussed in these other topics as well.

Post by Young Greezy 1/3/2010, 22:35

Yes, me and Manette were talking about this earlier. My idea is that we have add another sort of admin level. Not really an admin, but instead of having a 1, 2, or 3, they would have a little 0 beside their name (like the one Zurkov has).

What this level would allow is for the member to vote on new members. This eliminates the problem of having too many people pouring in votes too fast without said votes being deserved. (Members without this 0 tag could still recommend people, but their vote wouldn't do anything.)

My idea on how to determine which members get the 0 ranking would basically just be, we give it to the ones who are active in game (so we know they've been playing with applicants) and show maturity in their decision making (So they don't just let anyone in). It wouldn't be too hard to obtain, so we'd still have a decent amount of potential voters. I just feel that now, it's silly that if 4 out of the 60 people in the clan like you, you can get in.

Also, anyone who is able to vote could just use the Approved stamp instead, since they would all be part of one voting council. And also, maybe raising the amount of votes to 5 or 6 would be beneficial.

This is just a rough idea so any feedback and improvements would be much appreciated.

hmm no more reactions from others? I realise this is a difficult subject.

I changed the description on the application forum a bit:

Write your application in this forum. Tell us a bit about yourself, what is your age, which country/region are you from, specific passions? We would like to know what your experience level is, how long have you been playing TF2? What are your favorite classes? Have you been in other clans? What will be your addition to our clan?

I would also like to suggest that we regularly change our recruiting policy to what sort of players we are looking for. As far as i can see now we really need experienced players. So maybe we could set a certain amount of playtime hours as a current requirement? Also i gave some junior admins the challenge of achieving a certain rank before a certain deadline. With Jonesie for instance this really encouraged him to play each day and become very active.

Let me summerize the ideas we now have:

-Only allow voting after a certain period
-Require certain activity before approving
-A special admin ( mature and active) that has the final decision and other membervotes are just fyi
-Increase the needed number of votes to 5 or 6 (a ratio that reflects about 1/3 of the total clan was suggested)
-Amount of playtime hours
-Do an assessment with one of the admins on an empty server
-Set a rank goal to be achieved in certain time
-KD ratio of at least 0.8 or higher
-Members votes count as one vote combined with judge votes
-Minimum age limit of 14
-Age between 14-18 needs more votes to become member and enter the scrimteam
-Minimum age limit for admins of 17

A LOT of suggestions. Now how to proceed on this...

I'm more concerned about letting NEW players in rather than the ages of current members and admins. We need to increase vote amount and we need to base a vote on more than "oh you're cool, i've played with you, you're not a dick head."

I like all of these:
-Only allow voting after a certain period
-A special admin ( mature and active) that has the final decision and other membervotes are just fyi
-Increase the needed number of votes to 5 or 6 (a ratio that reflects about 1/3 of the total clan was suggested)
-Amount of playtime hours
-KD ratio of at least 0.8 or higher
-Members votes count as one vote combined with judge votes
-Minimum age limit of 14
-Minimum age limit for admins of 17

I've also noticed there's quite a few members listed on the site that I've never seen... so maybe the admins should clean up the list a little, figure out who's been around recently and who hasn't. Honestly, if we haven't seen a member in weeks then what's the point of being a member? Also, we need to add the new members to the list, even just temporarily , so we can see how many people are in Pulp.

So that means you don't like these idea's:

-Require certain activity before approving
-Do an assessment with one of the admins on an empty server
-Set a rank goal to be achieved in certain time
-Age between 14-18 needs more votes to become member and enter the scrimteam

I agree with you Manette that we are talking about new members and not about current ones. Who's in, stays in. This topic regards new members.

I think we could also require that each new member should have a spot in the top100, right?
Take a look at this! http://pulpfortress.clanservers.com/tf2stats/ranking/player?playername={p&searchbutton=Search#
Right now i see Pichdawg has {PULP} tag on while he shouldn't. His score is terrible. http://pulpfortress.clanservers.com/tf2stats/id/STEAM_0:1:25810568
So this proves the validity of this whole discussion. Why was he accepted so fast while Drac3997 was disapproved (apart from the micspamming which was obvious). Both have a negative score which doesn't indicate much skill. I remember Biggsly had the same problem but he worked on it. But he still has a lot of work to do http://pulpfortress.clanservers.com/tf2stats/id/STEAM_0:1:29913863. Maybe we should reset the stats of people with negative scores when they apply and set them a goal. I remember when i played TF2 for the first time i got my ass kicked too, doesn't mean you can't grow.

Maybe someone can give Jesus is hacking some tips: http://pulpfortress.clanservers.com/tf2stats/id/STEAM_0:0:20488598
I've played with him a couple of times lately so he is active but KD doesn't look too good.

Then we have Polymorph, haven't seen him much. He's played 10 hrs on the server:

Yea, all those examples are why we need to clean up the memberlist, especially for those with limited play time on the server or very bad scores (or KD if it's low enough). I know this is a fun clan, but if we have a whole lot of noobish players we're just a joke. We really need to enforce the tags better, too.

Also, could someone add the Pulp member tag to mine and other new member forum accounts?

I just changed your forum rank Dr. Manette and of a few others as well. I have to find a way that this doesn't get overlooked anymore. I agree, we need to cleanup some of the inactive members. I will PM them asking if they want to stay in the clan and if yes when we can expect to see them again.

Btw i talked to Roaches recently but he changed his email address, thats why he didn't get my PM's and he wasn't available to play the game for some time due to personal reasons. Dunno what his plans are though.

But yea, tryouts could work. Before you can join you've got to challenge a current member? Also, I know from playing on here long enough that pulp members are fairly skilled. Pugs will also show people's skill within the clan.

I just changed your forum rank Dr. Manette and of a few others as well.

Thanks!

That's why i invited Havik and Mizuto for the pug tonight!

I think a private session with an admin is an idea. I have to think about it a bit more.

I don't think it's really necessary for judgement reasons because i think everyone will be able to judge a player after one week.

But i do see the following positives:

+The player will experience the admin session as a serious test and will therefore cherish his membership more and be more involved with the clan
+The session can be used for training and instruction purposes in order to improve the players skill and encourage him to use the forum and explain some groundrules

Well, since I'm the main Recruiter for PULP, maybe you could tell me how many people you want me to recruit per week, and I could try to make that request happen. Of course, I will abide by the number which is chosen the most.

I think a maximum of 2 per week. Currently we are not looking for noobs or kids. So they must be 16+ and have 150+ hours experience with TF2 i would say.

Does this apply to current applications or just new ones?

I like the idea of pitting new members against our 1337 members to see how well they fare.
