Real-time Communication Empty Real-time Communication

Post by Lord Zurkov 19/1/2010, 08:53

I would like to pose a suggestion: we should start gathering together in our Steam chat anytime we're online. That way, we can discuss anything in real-time with the entire group instead of waiting for people to reply to a post on the forum. In addition, it would be convenient for people to talk with the entire online portion of the clan.

I advise everyone here make a pair of shortcuts on your computer to the urls listed below.
You can go a step further and add one [1] of them to your Startup folder (but if you do, you'll need to uncheck Steam's "Run Steam when Windows starts" setting).

Public group (-P-U-L-P- FORTRESS): steam://friends/joinchat/103582791430637025

Private group (-P-U-L-P- ELITE): steam://friends/joinchat/103582791430810925

Everyone should primarily use a single group chat, so as to avoid splitting people up between the two groups (you can be in both chats simultaneously, but make sure you're in the primary chat). I suggest the primary be the public group (to allow prospective applicants to join the chat easily), but the final say is up to the administrators.

Real-time Communication Empty Re: Real-time Communication

Post by Epps 19/1/2010, 10:43

I got nothing against it, the feature is there so why wouldn't we be allowed to use it?
However, I have used IRC with wiki's a lot which is basicly the same and I know from my own experience that people tend to rush idea's so they won't really get thought trough. Then again, it is fun to just sit there and talk about the weirdest things

As for a desktop shortcut, I am one of those people who doesn't have any icons on his desktop so I'd rather use steam -> friends -> Pulp Fotress -(rigth click)-> join chat.
Wait, no icons?! Yes, no icons. Every program I use is either binded to a shortcut, sits in my main start menu or I use the run command for them which is actually faster then going all the way back to my desktop en finding the right icon.

Anyway, I'll be on when I'm not busy doing things. No use in being in a chatroom when you don't do anything.

I lime it. Like this it will be easier for me and panda to discus about pugs. Instead of waiting for a reply on the forum. We should create a list of things that need to be discussed about and then at the end of the month people could disucss about it. I like this idea.

I allready am familier with both rocketdock as objectdock. I have used it for about 2 weeks on a modifed windows XP and I disliked it. As for using it on win7, I don't think it is necesary since I am happy with the win7 taskbar. I do have some icons on my desktop though, those are the notepad icons from my to do 3 lists (irl, pulp and internet) :p

The Windows 7 taskbar is sweet. It's the first time I've ever felt inclined to use the quick-launch toolbar (or in this case, its equivalent).

We were like 10 peeps on the Pulp Elite chatroom and it was a total mess. Rickrolls, spamming, nobody could have a serious talk so I think this idea is out of the question

I agree with you Nico. As much fun as we had in there, it was very difficult to talk about anything serious.

I think a groupchat like that can nice for funtalk and for discussing a specific subject like setting up a pug or the development of a map.

Only i don't think it's good for launching new idea's, i agree with Pepper on this. I had rahter that people did this via the forum. You are forced to think and formulate carefully about what your idea is and the proper people can respond since they might be offline when there is a group chat. So a groupchat cannot be used for decsion making. I saw this in the LB clan were they did a very long groupchat and posted this in the forum for other members to read who were not present but no one read it because it's very user unfriendly to read and there is a lot of irrelevant stuff in a chat.

Also i think that steamchat is very poor if you take into consideration that it does not have a history function.

That group chat was terrible Wink I joined in, didn't even get a chance to talk, I went out for an hour, came back, and my screen still had teh chat window up, and the little rectangle/scroll thing, was about as small as a this emoticon monkey

I've seen that problem before, but I figured it was just the people there. Seems like it always happens... I can think of three different chat rooms that accomplish nothing but spam whenever they're filled.

So, yeah. I figure this thread should die now.
