More and yet less of hyce
Well you will be seeing me more on the orange server, less everywhere else. No pugs... Computer has gone to shit so much that I can't run official maps. Not even fucking dm_duel3_r3020. Just orange. However, on August 22nd I get a nice new pc.
AMD athlon x4
ATI radeon HD 5450 1gb
6 gb ram
1 tb hard drive
Gonna be great. I'll probably wind up replacing the 5450 if it can't max TF2.

Switch that to 4 gigs of ram and up to a 5770 or if you can save a little more (maybe downgrade the HDD to 50gb), a Nvidia 460 GTX. Definitely don't go with the 5450 though.

Well it's prebuilt. I can't change the ram or hard drive, and I'm not paying for it. It's $610, which is max. I'll buy a gtx 260 after I think.

Don't get a prebuilt, god. Why on earth would you do that.
That would never be worth 610.

That's USD. Not canadian. lol. Like I said, I'm not paying for it and my dad won't let me build it, because if it breaks he wants someone to blame. lol.
Edit: Not to mention my friend lars (commanderz) paid $1,300 to build a similar PC 2 years ago. lol. Core 2 quad, geforce 9800 gt were the only difference, pretty much.

US Dollars are worth more than Canadian genius. Your computer isn't worth 610 canadian, and it's worth even less american. That's a 400 dollar computer though. If you paid 50 bucks at the store, they would make it for you, or at least that's what they do here.

Re: More and yet less of hyce
I am a genius, thanks. Like I said, I'm not paying for it. I don't really care either if it's prebuilt or not. No stores do that here, as far as I know. Anyways, that 5450 will be replaced if it can't max TF2. It looks like it'll be able to, so that's just fine. Other than the rediculous overpricing, what do you think?

Re: More and yet less of hyce
I think that there's too much RAM and not enough video card. You won't need more than 4 gigs but you'll definitely need more than a 5450. And replace it with the 460, not the 260, the 260 isn't worth it.

Re: More and yet less of hyce
But aren't the 460's like $250 or so? The 260 is only $180.
As far as options go, I can get the same PC from HP instead of Dell for $10 less with 4 gb ram and a 500 gb hard drive instead. Video card options are the 5450, nvidia geforce GT 220 and GT 230. (1gb, 1.5gb, respectively.)
The GT 230 might be too expensive though. So I figured that I'd go with the 5450 as a tie-over and purchase a new card soon after.

Re: More and yet less of hyce
First thing you need to do before buying a PC is making a list of what you want to do with it. If it's just source games on high, (HD) movies, browsing the internet etc you will easily manage with 4GB of ram (both ddr2 and 3 do the job), a 1TB HDD and a fast 512mb video card. Most 1GB video cards are actually slow except for the expensive ones giving you weaker performances instead of better ones.
As for buying a prebuild or building one yourself I would say do what you want, but since you are already talking about changing video cards why even bother with a prebuild one? No sense in buying parts you will replace right after the purchase :/
Also, my next pc will be a custom desktop because I am starting to get fed up with how I can't upgrade my HDD nor video card >.<

Re: More and yet less of hyce
The 260 isn't worth the price, it performs at the level of a 5770 but is 20 dollars more. The 460, though more expensive, is like 65 dollars less than the radeon 5850 and performs at essentially the same level.
IDK what you're saying about 1gb cards being slow though pepper. The clock speeds haven't really changed. It's just more VRAM. Unless you're talking expensive like 150+, but that's how much you should be spending on a video card anyways.
DDR3 ram is standard now, basically all AM3 and 1156 socket mobos take it.
And yeah what pepper said, just build the thing rather than buying it and ripping it apart.

Re: More and yet less of hyce
Well all I'd change would be the graphics card. So as I see it I think it'd be best to get it without the card for $500, then by a 5770 or a 460. My friend kane says I'd probably need a different power supply. Like I said, it's not really my choice to have it prebuilt. If I was paying for it, yes it would be. However, I'm not so I'm going prebuilt.

Re: More and yet less of hyce
How many watts is the power supply? You should probably opt for at least getting a 550 watt one with an Athlon II cpu.

Re: More and yet less of hyce
Not sure. But kane says I should get a 650 watt. Looking at other options, I can get a PC with a Phenom X4 instead with an Nvidia Geforce 310 512 mb for $590. Better choice if I'm gonna change the card, I suppose.

Another Dell: This time, $600 flat, Athlon X4 and radeon hd 5670. 3 gb ram, (640 makes it 4gb) and a 500 gb hard drive.
Which is a better deal? HP or dell?

Re: More and yet less of hyce
HP deal; ATI Radeon HD 5570 runs L4D (aka Source games) at 52fps on high settings @ 1680x1050 and modern games around 40fps.
Dell deal; ATI Radeon HD 5670 runs L4D (aka Source games) at 107fps on high settings @ 1680x1050 and modern games around 70fps.
Source: http://www.hardware.info (dutch), both test with DX10 on which eats a lot of FPS.
In other words if you want to stick the video card that's in it you should go with the Dell, just pay the extra $40 for the extra GB of ram tho, worth it! As for the HDD being smaller, just put a second in. HDD's are CHEAP as hale thee days and mostcases have room for a second one. If they don't just get one for your eSATA exit (if present) which is WAY faster than USB making it useful for bigger external drives.

Re: More and yet less of hyce
Wow greezy... 5670 107 fps? That's just fine. I don't need no big stinkin' card. 5670 it is. Thanks pepper, that fixes my situation.
As I said to my friend on skype "Thank you crazy dutch guy in my TF2 clan for making my day"

Re: More and yet less of hyce
I strongly reccomend the ATI graphics card, works great runs almost every modern game at max settings, even at HD resulutions.
I suggest you try it out playing Battlefield: Bad Company 2 at highest settings, going to blow you mind.

A hamster running on a wheel could run source games Hyce. If you want to do other things, it will be tough.

Re: More and yet less of hyce
True, I just picked a source game since Hyce mostly wants source games but I also included how modern games (Battlefield and some others) run which on the Dell is around 60~80fps. Also, I would still take the HP because HP > Dell as a brand xDYoung Greezy wrote:A hamster running on a wheel could run source games Hyce. If you want to do other things, it will be tough.
Re: More and yet less of hyce
Well I want battlefield and starcraft. That'd be as much as I want. My friend nick says the dell is a bad idea because their notorious for using shit power supplies. I'll see if I can find a better deal with an HP with a 5670. I'd really prefer the 5670, but it doesn't look like HP makes one with it. The only other options the HP has are a 1gb nvidia geforce gt 220, and the 1.5 gb geforce gt 230. Not sure if those are worth it at all.

Just found that the dell comes standard with a 460 watt power supply. Good enough?
