Everything redropped twice
Not really, but I thought it did. See, I have this program called Item Manager, and it monitors my Steam Profile to see any new drops so I don't have to manually check, which takes a while. Instead, it plays a sound, the announcer going "Yes! Yes! Yes!!" and it displays the new item. I was eating in the other room from my idling computer, you all know I idle, and I went to check it, and my mouth just dropped.

I promptly joined a team, and killed myself, and nothing happened >:(
I guess Steam had a small fit, oh well, how cool would it be if all my items redropped twice?

Not really luck though is it?
Re: Everything redropped twice
Last time people used an external program for TF2 it ended with up with every almost item getting deleted and people recieving warnings (and no halo)...
Re: Everything redropped twice
That program only notifies me when I get an item. I use TF2 to get my items, and another program to make TF2 do a whole bunch of other shit.Sgt Pepper wrote:Last time people used an external program for TF2 it ended with up with every almost item getting deleted and people recieving warnings (and no halo)...
Re: Everything redropped twice
It still sounds weird that you have to use other programs besides TF2 to use TF2 (not counting Steam that is)...ninji wrote:That program only notifies me when I get an item. Might be my tinfoil hat doing the talking in this thread, or how I dislike idlers tho.

Probably the second one, I'm feeling it too.

Re: Everything redropped twice
Nothing personal, but I'm just against idleing. The drop system is there as a reward for playing the game. People who idle abuse that system by making the game believe that they are playing while they are in fact sleeping/away. If you ask me Valve should take away all items that people earned from idling, just like they did with the SteamStats program. Too bad thay cant detect idleing tho...

Yea, I'm in that boat too, Sgt. Idling is cheap and quite frankly, cheating. Items are supposed to be rewards for playing the game, but idling just dumps them all in your lap and says here ya go. The day Valve deletes all idled items will be a good day in my book.

Re: Everything redropped twice
Why? Because the total amount of items you have is more important then your skill or the fun you have in-game? Believe me, you wont stop playing tf2 if they would do that.ninji wrote:I'll just stop playing TF2 when they do that.DrManette wrote:othing personal, but I'm just against idleing. Re: Everything redropped twice
I don't understand why they made the drop system at all. They should have made harder achievments and fixed the problem with servers where you can type !achievements to get them all.
Re: Everything redropped twice
the servers that type !achievements and get them all are usually legal. most of them ask permission from valve to do that. the other ones get found out pretty quickly. there is only like one or two legal ones right now.

Re: Everything redropped twice
i think mostly cause they r retards. but those servers are offline half the time and need maintenance alot. but idk why valve did that.

I find that wildly hard to believe, so I don't.vladmirbsl69 wrote:the servers that type !achievements and get them all are usually legal. most of them ask permission from valve to do that. the other ones get found out pretty quickly. there is only like one or two legal ones right now.

Re: Everything redropped twice
I am not denying the existance in those servers, I have been in one, I didn't use it, but I saw a friend of mine do it. What I am denying is that you have to ask Valve if you are going to use it, then they actually consider it and give permission. No, I am afraid.vladmirbsl69 wrote:i have one saved in my favs. i use it to only get the ach. that are like do 1 billion damage.
Re: Everything redropped twice
Yeah it sure is xD There was a plan once here in the Netherlands to make a special reading mark for sarcasm since sarcasm most of the time is hard to spot in text.ninji wrote:o.O Of course I will continue to play. Sarcasm is hard to put online, sorry :/Sgt Pepper wrote:

Re: Everything redropped twice
Making harder achievements would merely make it more difficult to get the unlocks legitimately.Eraserhead wrote:I don't understand why they made the drop system at all. They should have made harder achievements and fixed the problem with servers where you can type !achievements to get them all.
Valve did explain themselves (to a certain extent) when they first released the drop system.
I vaguely remember reading somewhere that the drop system exists because it is being tweaked with the intention of eventually having it drop a grand variety of custom weapons with semi-randomized attributes, not just the prefabricated ones... but I can't recall the source, so consider that purely hearsay.
It's similar to idling with third-party programs... it's not "legal" (and Valve certainly doesn't approve), the system simply has/had difficulty detecting it (the servers falsely send the message to Steam Cloud saying you fulfilled the achievement).vladmirbsl69 wrote:the servers that type !achievements and get them all are usually legal. most of them ask permission from valve to do that. the other ones get found out pretty quickly. there is only like one or two legal ones right now.
