New drop system
Valve fixed up the drop system considerably, and I'm pretty happy with the changes. More drops more often, based on a roll of when your next drop will be. So basically if the random number says an hour till a next drop, then in an hour you'll get your item. Also screws over the idlers, which is a plus in my book.

Improved drop system!
Yes people they finally improved it! Don't believe me? Check out the post on the TF2 blog if you haven't! Also, add it to your bookmarks or RSS reader to make sure youw ont miss a single post.
This is what they changed in my own words:
-Items now drop on rolled intervals instead of random ones. So instead of rolling a dice to see if you get an item it now rolls to see when you get the item.
-Increased drop rate.
-Maximum amount of items a player can recieve a week making idleing almost usules, HAHAHAHAHAHAHA!
I sure hope they are getting somewhere with the Engi update. As we all know engineer is one of the most influencing classes in TF2 (transport, resupply, healing and attack/defend) and creating new things for him is hard.
Anyway, I'm glad they finally did something to take on those idlers. It's no secret that I am strongly against it so good job Valve!
EDIT: Manette posted his version a few minutes before me, merged topics because I dont want my message to be a total waste

Re: New drop system
I (used to) idle, but I'm still exceptionally pleased with this solution. Idling was quite the stupid loophole and I'm very glad that they've finally gotten around to sewing it up.

Re: New drop system
Agreed, the new system not only makes ideling useless but it also takes away the reason to do it in the first place since they increased the amount of drops. I mean, by just playing the game you will allready get all the items you need...Lord Zurkov wrote:I (used to) idle, but I'm still exceptionally pleased with this solution. I idled, I have 6 hats...ok Screw idlers
Anyway, I stopped idling a long time ago when I realised hats were so useless haha!
Everybody has one nowadays so they're not even rare anymore.

Holy hell, they must have seriously improved the drop rate for hats. I just got a Batter's Helmet as a random drop.

Really, i think it's a lot more fun to play the game and get items (before it blew, but now it's easier and more plentiful!) rather than play the game and then have some program fabricate items for you. Why do both when you do one and get the same results. That's right, folks, now for a limited time playing TF2 will actually get you items instead of your 100th Sandvich. Idlers beware, it's a waste of time to cheat because playing the game does that and more!!!!
I'm just enjoying the victory valve scored with this update.
Re: New drop system
Idling still works fine, but if you actually play the game for any reasonable time at all then there isn't any particular reason to idle.
