Ingame welcomeboards?
Pneu wrote:
I personally recommend that all mappers here in PULP learns how to implement materials into Hammer World Editor. That way posters could easily be displayed in game on large "welcomeboards". Thoose posters could also easily be replaced by new posters. Not harder than replacing a skin in TF2. It would also be quite simple to create big monitors that after a certain amount of time swaps between a variety of different posters. Imagine a large telescreen, no affection on the gameplay if omptmized correctly, which promotes all upcoming events.
This is just my opinion.
Re: Ingame welcomeboards?
I shall see if I can project this theory into practice. If I succed, I'll upload a template for all user to download and use in their mapping. Would be fun to hear what our fellow mappers have to comment on this.

Re: Ingame welcomeboards?
I second this motion fully, if it can be implemented properly, and efficiently.
Re: Ingame welcomeboards?
Would it be possible to replace the contents of the boards without having to upload a new version of the map?
Re: Ingame welcomeboards?
Wouldn't you just need to like edit it and not change the name? Instead of renaming it?

Well, when editing an original version of a map, you have to change the name for copy right reasons, and just to show that it is a new version. Also, when i re-make maps, I usually check on FPSBanana with the original mapper so I don't get flamed or anything because of the Common Creative law or w/e
Re: Ingame welcomeboards?
And if you decide not to change the name of the map, when people will try to join the game they will receive an error message telling them their version of the file is not the same. So it's kinda a problem

Re: Ingame welcomeboards?
I know that Mani allows tagging of logos onto walls, and it doesn't affect the map, because I saw it on 2fort once.
Re: Ingame welcomeboards?
yes but there are advantages of Source Mod over Mani Admin. I don't mind Mani-admin, but through past experiences I like source mod much better.

Yes it would be possible. It's as simple as replacing a file. I won't go into detail about the mechanics behind this here though.

Re: Ingame welcomeboards?
Yeah this could be easily done. But I've never seen where the welcome board changes posters. That should be fascinating. I'll be on this whole week after noon eastern time, working on the map that I still owe Tendo{sorry tendo}. If you need any help. Just send me a message.

You've porbably answered this but, what is the purpose of these in-game welcomeboards? Just curious.

The main reason would be to promot current events and to give the player a proper welcome. A good first approach renders it more likely that a player stays at the server. If more people stay and see the other posters promoting events, they might be interested in attending to those events. That is in favour of our community as it probably and hopefully, will recieve more active members. I'm not trying to say our community WILL grow vastly, but I do say that this should raise the probability a little.
Other than that, wouldn't it feel just awesome observing this big welcomboard each time you join your favorit orange server?
