What are our illegal pleasures? [nerd topic]
Okay let's face it, we are all just a bunch of nerds which is a good thing really, we can do more than most people in these technological times. Now I was wondering what some of the guilty/illegal pleasures are that we do.
I for starters often get bored while waiting for the train/a station. Since my stations are always in cities there are a lot of unprotected wireless networks around. I often connect to them and rename them to GLaDOS v3.11.
Another thing I used to do when I have my laptop on me and I'm stationed at a place for a while (eating, drinking etc) was using a program to retrieve the WEP/WPA code from SpeedTouch networks. SpeedTouch networks by default have a name like SpeedTouch584F5sp and when you take the text after SpeedTouch you can find the password by using a small program. However that was before I got mobile internet so I deleted the program and just share my mobile internet when on the road.
So, any other hooligans here?

Oh man, you're a real terror.
I've only stolen the deluxe package from Comcast & Cox Cable/Internet services for four years.
I download and distribute movies among my friends as long as they pay the DVD cost.
I used to hack local & state websites for fun. I knew better than to go federal. Though this was in the late 90's.
And yes, it's beyond the statute of limitations you federal fuckheads.

you'd be surprised at how many people use open-circuit surveillance systems, most of the time it's people that have no idea what they are doing. you google the serial number on the camera and it pops up with a nice little arbitrary unnamed website with frames for all the cameras. the password is almost always "0000". you can then proceed to change the media stream address to something different. i'll let you use your imaginations.

my neighbors have a security cam system that they watch through a website. i found the password and make the cam stop recording then mess up their yard and turn it back on.

How could I forget about one of my favorite things to do?!
My stepfather works for a company that leases electronics to both household users and companies. He often collects laptops with defects for repair (7/10 times just viruses). I often look at them before he sends it to HQ because most problems are easy to fix which saves him a lot of paper work. Of course I am a sneaky little bastard so I change some of the settings (mouse should be sensitive), install Firefox on it and finally I take a look in their personal files. There is just so much you can find out about a person just by browsing through their files, including things I don't want to know like what kind of porn they like xD

Meh I dont see the crime in what I do. People should protect their WiFi, I'm just helping them remind that others could do harm if they wanted to. Besides, it's not like I'm putting a password on it (used to in the past). I have to admit that sometimes I am tempted to spam their shared folders. The Mad Hatter wrote:Oh man, you're a real terror.

Just imagine me working for those guys. Boss not around -> change every stream address to an online TV stream and call tech support for help xDLOOK IT'S ADAM!!! wrote:you'd be surprised at how many people use open-circuit surveillance systems, most of the time it's people that have no idea what they are doing. you google the serial number on the camera and it pops up with a nice little arbitrary unnamed website with frames for all the cameras. the password is almost always "0000". you can then proceed to change the media stream address to something different. i'll let you use your imaginations.
Can you do other things with it as well?vladmirbsl69 wrote:my neighbors have a security cam system that they watch through a website. i found the password and make the cam stop recording then mess up their yard and turn it back on.

yea you can make it so you stream a video on it. i once went over to see if my friend was home but there dad said no. then i saw on their cpu that he was watching the camera. i went home went into the site and watched until he went to the live stream(i could see on the cpu when he switched from old recordings to live stream). i then streamed a porno. LOL. the funny thing is he didnt log off of the live stream for 10 min...

Its not illegal but sometimes when I'm in a building where I am certain I'm never going to be in ever again or at least not for a good long while, I grab a piece of paper and draw something like a monster or a series of mysterious symbols on it and leave it somewhere around, sometimes I hide it. Knowing someday someone will find the paper and wonder who could possibly have drawn such a thing, every time I think about it I feel good.
Also I've done a lot of stuff I'm not too proud of to the computers in every school I've ever attended. I fucked up the computers at the school I attended through 1st to 6th grade so bloody bad they never truly healed, and also all of them will automatically start up at 4am every morning... Revenge can be utterly sweet especially so early in the morning.

Schools always have the worst protection ever when it comes to computers. One school of mine granted admin to everyone as long as you unplugged the lan cable while signing in. My class kept it a secret so we could go on with our own programs. Firefox was the first thing we put on it followed by ZSNES and Project64. It took the sys admin 3 months to find out what we had done and even though he told our mentor and we had detention to 5pm for a week. However it was a kind form of detention filled with coffee, hot coco, cake and playing games together. Our mentor approved our actions and the detention was decided by the school master so yeah...Siphex wrote:(...)Also I've done a lot of stuff I'm not too proud of to the computers in every school I've ever attended. Another school (one I hated) had an even worse protection. The PC's were all 8 year old and filled with trojans, spyware etc so no one was willing to use them because of how outdated everything was. The sys admin obviously thought the same because he never fixed any of them. Anyway back in the win98/winXP days I used Norton/Total Commander as an alternative for explorer, turns out that with that program I could just access the C drive and install things on it. I started upgrading the software starting with MalwareBytes and NOD32 to take care of the +100 trojans and viruses, Office 2003 (2007 was too heavy), Firefox, Winamp and VLC. My mentor, a former sys admin himself, found out about this but instead of punishing me he asked me to tell him all the details on how I did it. Then I got 'punished' with detention in which we fixed all the computers.
Two days before summer vacation the sys admin found out and decided to quit working for our school (I wonder what he has done during the rest of the year).
I torrent a bunch every now and then but I don't think I copied one from another person. I dislike the 'normal blonde get's fucked because of cheap story' movies and those are the ones I often find on other people's PC's xDJonesie wrote:@Epps: Didn't you steal Porn movies at one time?

I walk 30 mins a day from school to home(hence why im so fit) and every time I walked i always passed this neighbor's garden. since the walk always got boring i decided to have some fun and throw some of their tools laying around(including electrical wires) into their big fountain. after about the 3rd time as i was passing a cop stopped me and i felt my heart just pounding... he asked for my name(i stupidly gave him my real name) and said if i did anything again i would get in srs trouble. now i never touch their stuff
