I FUCKING HATE FORUMOTION! (blowing off some steam)
They change settings without warning, add new features and turn them on by default, don't allow us to a lot of customization and AAAAAAAARGH! I want to make a new forum skin but guess what? You can only have one main theme and 2 temp themes which are even more limited than the original theme! Seriously foromotion, why do you apply those redundant limits while there is so much you can do with phpbb?!
Even more rage; screenshots from foromotion admin panel and my own server's phpbb admin panel:

Can you create a theme on your server and then upload it to forumotion to share with other people and then we can use it on ours?

Tried that but that requires FTP acces which we don't have. On a related notice I am making progress by using CSS instead of the bloody admin panel.
Re: I FUCKING HATE FORUMOTION! (blowing off some steam)
Okay I give up with this invisible solution. I'm going to update the main theme instead when there hardly any people on after backing the original theme up.

lol forumotion ftl. Also, why not use a different kind of forum? XD
Re: I FUCKING HATE FORUMOTION! (blowing off some steam)
Because that requires us having a better webhost which costs money which we don't have...Havik wrote:lol forumotion ftl. Also, why not use a different kind of forum? XD

Re: I FUCKING HATE FORUMOTION! (blowing off some steam)
Epps, i have a host that i pay for where i can make phpBB forums. Shall we try and move our forum there?
I made this in 20 minutes and then stopped working on it (going to pick it up again though). But in the admin panel i can change everything, and we will have FTP access as well.

This would be legit, we can do so much more with phpBB forums, the possibilities are endless

Re: I FUCKING HATE FORUMOTION! (blowing off some steam)
only it would mean we have to halt this forum and backup + export + import which can be pain in the ass.
Re: I FUCKING HATE FORUMOTION! (blowing off some steam)
I say we work on creating it in the new location. And on our 1 year anniversary we change over to new forum. We can leave a link to see old topics here and have an all new forum over there where we have complete control. It may be a bitch at first but better to cut our losses sooner than later.

Re: I FUCKING HATE FORUMOTION! (blowing off some steam)
That is bloody ridicules and makes me rage even more at this host! So okay, about this plan:
-We set up phpbb on a server. This can be either mine, erasers, someone else's depending on which one is better/person we trust more.
-We create a Pulp theme, all the sub-forums and rules along with some basic threads to ensure a quick revive.
-We redirect forum.pulpfortress.com to the new host.
-Members create new threads and within a few days it's back to normal.
-I do a newsletter to let every forum member know we have moved.
-I cast berserk on myself and DELETE FUCKING EVERYTHING on the forumotion forum. Afterwards I create a single locked thread about how we moved to our own server because forumotion sucks.
-After a week or two we delete the forumotion account for good.
Now as for the server, I don't mind if we use mine since I hardly use it to begin with. Seriously, right now it functions for easy filesharing and url shortening . The specs from my host are as following:
-€30 a year including .nl domain.
-3GB storage (120mb in use; Wordpress and some shared files).
-60GB bandwidth (<100mb used).
-Installatron for one click installations of various kinds of software.
-10 Databases (2 in use; Wordpress and my own url shortener).
-10 FTP accounts (1 in use, mine).
-Server is located in Enschede, Netherlands (near the German border) and allows high speed downloads.
Edit: Installed phpbb on my host: http://epps.nl/phpbb/

Re: I FUCKING HATE FORUMOTION! (blowing off some steam)

Re: I FUCKING HATE FORUMOTION! (blowing off some steam)
Installing a new phpbb in another directory with its own database would be enough.
