Yes. Community weapons serve no purpose, except to show off how awesome you are. The weapons also sparkle, and in the deathcam, it says "COMMUNITY FLAMETHROWER", or whichever weapon it is.

Yea there is also a plugin that can fake those deathcam shots. You can even give your weapons extra colors, rockets, health regain on hit, etc.
