Re: Building my second computer.
My game pc never has viruses either and i don't even have a virus scanner on it (i installed one last week and scanned and uninstalled again just to make sure). If you use the machine for nothing other then gaming you should not be worried about viruses as long as you don't torrent/visit dubious sites or insert USB sticks in it.
Re: Building my second computer.
This reminds me of a website...
www.rinkworks.com/stupid/cs_os.shtml
www.rinkworks.com/stupid/cs_os.shtml
- Spoiler:
- Customer: "I installed Windows 98 on my computer, and it doesn't work."
- Tech Support: "Ok, what happens when you turn on your computer?"
- Customer: "Boy, are you listening? I said it doesn't work."
- Tech Support: "Well, what happens when you TRY to turn it on?"
- Customer: "Look, I'm not a computer person. Talk regular
English, not this computer talk, ok?" - Tech Support: "Ok, let's assume your computer is turned off, and you just sat down in front of it, and want to use it.
What do you do?" - Customer: "Don't talk like I'm stupid, boy. I turn it on."
- Tech Support: "And then what happens?"
- Customer: "What do you mean?"
- Tech Support: "Does anything appear on your monitor? I mean, the TV part."
- Customer: "The same thing I saw last time I tried."
- Tech Support: "And that is what?"
- Customer: "Are you sure you know what you're doing?"
- Tech Support: "Yes, sir. What is on your screen?"
- Customer: "A bunch of little pictures."
- Tech Support: "Ok, in the upper left corner, do you see 'My Computer'."
- Customer: "No, all I see is that little red circle thing
with the chunk out of it." - Tech Support: "You mean an apple?"
- Customer: "I guess it kind of looks like an apple."
Then it took me fifteen minutes to convince him that he had a Mac.
Even after showing him "About this Macintosh." I spent another fifteen
minutes trying to convince him that Windows 98 wouldn't work on his Mac.
He said it should work because Windows 98 is for PCs, and he had a PowerPC.
I think he's still trying to get it to read that CD, because I never
could convince him.- Customer: "I installed Windows 98 on my computer, and it doesn't work."

Hobo you're banned from talking about computers and viruses due to your ignorance, and only ignorant people get viruses that disable their computer. Which by the way only computer literates can deal with.

lol vital. And I've built a computer before and it's running perfectly. I gave to my sister. And she does torrenting and some other crap. And it doesn't go slower. It has no viruses. And all I have is the cheapest version of Norton.

Yes you must always be weary about where you insert your stick. You never know what viruses you may bring back with you. I've seen some nasty ones create all kinds of

I'd go with the NVidia 9800GTX+ Me and a few of my friends have it and you can have the highest possible settings in l4d2 and it will run smoothly and look amazing

Source engine game, source games are more demanding on the CPU than GPU (and they're not very demanding altogether anyways).
9800 GTX will still run everything well but it doesn't have quite as long a lifespan left as some newer cards.

That is not a way to judge a graphics company. Nvidia produces higher price, higher output cards. Your graphics on your laptop might be integrated.

Re: Building my second computer.
No I know Nvidia is good overall, with the computer itself. But when it comes to Tf2 it's not as good. Maybe it's just the game itself. I'm not sure. But what I'm sure is about putting a good graphics card on the new pc. In order to have a better gameplay.

Re: Building my second computer.
like mentioned above, the source engine relies almost completely on CPU, not GPU. so your processor might be the issue here.

Re: Building my second computer.
That's not because it is nvidia but because you were too cheap to pay for a laptop with a better video card. Get your facts straight!Furgus wrote:Yeah I have nvdia on my laptop and it sucks.
/defending nvidia although I should had gone for the ATI version of my laptop series; better card was better because ATI is cheaper in overall.
Re: Building my second computer.
Is ATI another brand of graphics card.

There are two brands of video cards (that matter). There's Nvidia, and ATI. Nvidia makes more expensive, sometimes better cards.
Fun Fact: My brother just got a job with the former head of ATI Canada.

I have an ATI Sapphire 5770, it destroys everything (including crysis) and with vapor-x, it comes overclocked out of the box.
