The Zombie Survival Guide (book)
The Zombie Survival Guide

Last Thursday I was in Nijmegen, celebrating with my friend on how she failed for her theory exam (the one for a drivers license). After we left the Subway for our monthly shared sub (payed by me as usual) she wanted to go to a bookstore. While she was looking for some lame book no one cares about I went straight to the English section (I can’t follow Dutch books). What I found to my surprise was the Zombie Survival Guide by Max Brooks, a book that I wanted to read for 2 years. Since it only was €12 I bought me a copy which I started to read yesterday. Even though I’m only around page 70 atm I must say that I like it. The book has a certain real way of thinking things over. For instance what weapons are the best to use.
You would think a cool machine gun would do wonders on them right? WRONG! You can only kill them by destroying their head, feel no pain at all and machine guns are made to have a spread, in other words have a shitty aim which will cause you to waste a lot of ammo missing the head. Use a rifle, more accurate and it will cause you to actually aim so you won’t waste that much ammo. Also, zombies can hear noise, guns make noise so use a silencer if you wanna survive.
Melee weapon; a sword would be nice ey? Well if you are an Half-Life fan you would know what the best weapon against zombies and people is a crowbar. They aren’t heavy, durable, have a decent range and unlike swords they can be used to open doors, windows and get rid of other barricades.
Armor: a cool bodysuit! WRONG! You want to use as least of stamina you can while traveling. Endurance is the keyword and by the time you actually need to use your armor it is already too late! Just wear regular clothes but make sure they aren’t baggy for that leaves you with a lot of things to be grabbed on. Also, get short hair for the same reason!
Anyway, these are just a fraction of the things I learned from the first chapters. I also learned about the behavior, how they life (or in other words, how to make my own study of them irl) and stuff. So if you wanna survive the inevitable zombie invasion you’d better buy this book right now!
Re: The Zombie Survival Guide (book)
i have read this book many many times, me and my friends made a zombie evacuatio plan which involves one of my friends farm and his next door neighbours pump action 12 gauge wich unfortunately is not ideal but it is the only weapons around apart from several machetes all of wich we would take, also our mountain bikes and we would head to a creek i know which has a cabin that very few people know about (its one of my friends cousins but they would have the infomation we have and wouldnt instantly head there. at which point we patrol the three hundred meter area while putting up raised fences (it only has barbed wire) it is also 80k's from a town which could be useful especially cos the town has a gun shop, then we set up fish for food so we dont run out of preverables and hunt in the area aswell, my other friends has two hunting bows and a crossbow (his family not him) which we would take with us for more silent response thne the 12 gauge. yeah we would use the bows and crossbow to hunt keep the shotgun inm the cabin and give every other person a gun from the gunshop. Anyway back to the book, it is kinda scary because it makes the zombies disease sound really real (hope to high hell it isnt) it also has very good reasoning for all of the things he says
tis a good book
tis a good book

Re: The Zombie Survival Guide (book)
Now here's a frightening thought: zombies... in space.
Anyways, a couple of silenced hand guns, a rifle, and a crowbar sounds good to me. Maybe a knife too, and a flamethrower, and a RPG... BFG 3000... umm...

Zombies in space, that would make a fun game. Maybe someone can do a L4D mod to do this :pDrManette wrote:Now here's a frightening thought: zombies... in space.

wow vlad, that's a necropost which is highly disliked on forums. Anyway, I'll probably get this book if I find it around half price books in the nearest city (hell yeah, cheap great books)

I'd just like to state that it's not a necropost if you have something to say. I didn't want to make a new topic on this because it would just be repetetive. So yeah, I get a book similar to the Zombie Survival guide except it's The Zombie Combat Manual. It's very interesting, it teaches you about all hand to hand combat with zombies, how to train physically and mentally, and weak points on the average zombie.

Re: The Zombie Survival Guide (book)
Let's remember this is fiction. Please don't train vigorously and became a tinfoil hat wearing recluse in the woods somewhere.
That being said, if you guys liked the Zombie Survival Guide you should really check out World War Z. It's by Max Brooks also, but it's a "verbal" collection of short stories based on accounts that "happened" during the zombie outbreak that almost snuffed out humanity. It's freakin' sweet.

Re: The Zombie Survival Guide (book)
That must have been a really long session of TF2 to miss out on the real life FPS!!
Edit: Despite my warnings that it's all fiction and theory I still have a sharpened WWII US Marines machete next to my bed at all times. Sharpened and well taken care of, I like to say that it's because we live near a ghetto but it's really for the zombies.
